Bill Hartel BIOGRAPHY
Experience:
I have been playing the drum set for 35 years, and teaching
professionally since 1978. I have performed and recorded
with numerous bands and projects covering Rock, Jazz, Blues, New Age and ethnic styles of music. I have been teaching drums full time at Moody Music, Zion Music, Orange County School Of Music and recently at AB Music Studios.
I have also worked as a band coach and drum instructor for
A Yamaha Rock School.
Education:
I have studied drum set techniques with some of the worlds's finest drummers. Such as Greg Bissonette (David Lee Roth),
Roy Burns (Benny Goodman), Carmine Appice (Rod Stewart)
and Vinnie Appice (John Lennon) and Butch Baron. I also
studied Big Band Jazz and Jazz Improvization at Palomar
College in San Diego. Recently, I have started studying
Indian Tabla Drumming as well as Guitar for a well-rounded
approach.
Recording Credits:
I have played on CD releases by: Theo Bishop, Steve Norris
and Leigh Williams, Nik Tomco, Bart Bishop and Greg
Bishop. Other credits include, Extra Extra, Lynzee, Slinger and Native Alien. I also write original music specifically for
students in my home studio. I also have songwriting credits for several movie and video soundtracks, including A Six-String Samurai. I can also record drum tracks at my home studio and e-mail them to any songwriter.
Performance:
Monterey Blues Festival, The Doheny Blues Festival, The Grammy Museum, The
Roxy, The Troubadour, The Whiskey, The Warehouse, The
Coach House, Galaxy Theater, The Long Beach Gran Prix,
The Queen Mary and The China Club, I have performed onstage with Grammy nominated Jazz singer Barbara Morrison, members of Tower of Power, Steve Oliver and R & B singer Bobby Brown. I have also traveled to South America, to perform concerts in the country of Peru.
Currently:
I am currently focusing on jazz music and Performing with Square One Jazz as well as The Kicks Big Band and Jazz at the Naz. Writing original music heard on this site is also a time consuming passion.
